Starting daycare is a big transition — for both babies and parents. It’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions: excitement, anxiety, and lots of questions about how your baby will adjust — especially when it comes to sleep.
Here’s what you can expect in those early weeks:

1. Nap Disruptions Are Normal - Even if your baby is a great sleeper at home, naps at daycare can look different. New surroundings, unfamiliar sounds, and a different routine may lead to shorter or missed naps. Give it time — most babies adjust within 2–4 weeks.
2. Earlier Bedtimes May Be Needed - Because naps may be shorter at first, your baby might be extra tired by bedtime. Don’t be afraid to shift bedtime earlier to help them catch up on rest and avoid becoming overtired.
3. Separation Anxiety Can Impact Sleep - If your baby is going through a phase of separation anxiety, you might see more night wakings or clinginess. Stay consistent and comforting at home — this too will pass.
4. Communication Is Key - Talk to your daycare provider about your baby’s current sleep needs and preferences. Many centers are happy to follow your routine as closely as they can, especially for younger babies. If you need help communicating, I created a FREE printable daycare worksheet just for the occasion.
5. Trust the Process - It takes time to adjust to big changes. With patience, support, and a little flexibility, most babies settle into their new rhythm — and often thrive with the added stimulation and structure.
