How soon will baby start sleeping after I start implementing training from the guide?
This is totally dependent on your baby's temperament, your commitment to the plan and the method you choose to use. For instance, I have some client who use the check-in method and see their baby sleeping through the night by night 2. But, I've had other babies with tougher temperaments and use slower methods like the chair method or pick-up put down that can take a few weeks to fall into a solid sleep rhythm. If you are committed, prepared and approach this with love, your baby will be sleeping in no time.
How much will my baby cry during sleep training?
First, I want to say there is no such thing as a no-cry sleep training method. If anyone tells you otherwise, they're lying in a big way! There will always be some degree of tears as they are learning to initiate sleep independently and without props. My goal is to help you determine your limits with crying. There are several methods we can choose from so you feel comfortable with the amount of processing baby has to do to learn independent sleep.
While you can expect there to be some tears, research shows us, time and time again, that sleep training has no effect on babies attachment, development or emotional stability. You heard that right! Several studies from Harvard University, Duke University, and the College of Family Physicians of Canada all determined sleep training to be safe for babies.
So as you step into this process, know that tears will happen, but baby will learn valuable, lifelong skills that will only support wellness and development.
Why if my daycare doesn't have the same sleep environment as us? Will to ruin sleep training?
I get this question a lot and for good reason! You've done the work and your baby is sleeping through the night and goes down for nap like a champ. But, you bring baby to daycare and suddenly the environment is different and naps seem to fall apart. This is completely normal! I have created a printable daycare worksheet that details your baby's sleep needs, nap times, and any special requests you may have to help keep routine as consistent as possible. This tool helps daycare providers to get a clear understanding of how to be successful with your baby's sleep during the day.
If you're still having issues with naps falling apart at daycare, there are other tips and tricks we can tackle together. Just reach out and we'll get baby sleeping at daycare in no time!
Am I able to breastfeed day/night and still sleep train?
Yes! Breastfeeding creates and incredibly special bond between mom and baby. It not only is nutritionally perfectly designed for your baby but it also has benefits to developing your baby's circadian rhythm at an early age. My goal is to always protect your breastfeeding journey and goals during the sleep training process. Whether that mean's maintaining night feeds, including it in bedtime routine or during nap training, I encourage you to continue breastfeeding as long as you need.
